Introduction
Setting up Eero is quick and easy. The Eero App automatically walks you through the entire setup process, from connecting your first Eero to creating your Wi-Fi network.
This guide provides an overview of the setup steps you can refer to during setup. Whether you're replacing an existing router or setting up a network for the first time, the process takes just a few minutes.
What You Need for Setup
Your Eero will have most of the equipment you need to set up your Eero network.
The following equipment is needed for setup:
- An Eero with an Ethernet port built-in for gateway setup
- Power cord
- Ethernet cable
- Fiber ONT
Step 1: Connect Eero to the Fiber ONT
Plug the Ethernet cable into any port on the Eero, then connect the other end to the Fiber ONT.
Step 2: Power on the Eero
Plug the Eero into power.
The Eero's status light will blink white when it powers on. If your modem has status lights, they will also blink.
Step 3: Connect Eero
The app will automatically scan for the Eero, and the Eero’s status light will blink blue.
Once connected, the status light will turn solid blue.
* If the app does not automatically detect the Eero, you may be prompted to enter the Eero’s serial number.
Step 4: Set the Eero’s location
Set a location name for the Eero so you can recognize it on the network.
You can select from the available options or set a custom location.
Step 5: Create your Wi-Fi network
Setup a Wi-Fi name and password for your network.
Once your network name and password are entered, registration will complete and your network will be online.
You can tap Finish Setup to complete the process and return to the app or tap Add another eero device to add more Eeros to the network.
Optional: Add more Eeros to the network
If you have additional Eeros to add to your network, you can do so easily once the gateway Eero has been set up.
* Although an Ethernet-capable Eero is required for gateway setup, any Eero can be added to the network.
* Any Eero with an Ethernet port can be connected to your network wirelessly or via Ethernet for a faster and more reliable connection.
When adding Eeros to your network, keep in mind the following placement tips:
- Place centrally: If you have a dead spot, place your new Eero between the dead spot and another Eero to ensure a strong connection.
- Keep it in the open: Eeros communicate best when they're not closed in—don't place your Eeros inside a media console or cabinet, behind or underneath large furniture
- Away from large electronics: Avoid placing your Eero in front, on top, or under electronics or appliances as metal objects can block Wi-Fi signals.
Final Step: Connect devices to the network
Once you have set up your network and added any additional Eeros, you can start connecting your devices.
