On Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, we will be retiring our "SquirrelMail" webpage and replacing it with the "Sonic Webmail" webpage. This tool provides a more secure connection for you, which is something we strive to improve and provide for our members every day. We know that transitioning away from something you’ve used for many years could be uncomfortable, so we’re here to help outline the changes, offer support, and ensure a smooth transition.
What settings should I change to make Webmail look more familiar?
The following guide will outline the steps you can take to make "Sonic Webmail" visually align more closely with "SquirrelMail", while also highlighting some of the new features that are available. If you’d like a tour, help navigating the new interface, or adjusting settings, our Support Team is happy to walk you through it step by step. Call our team at (855) 394-0100 between 6am-10pm PT every day.
Once logged into Webmail, Navigate to Settings in the upper right hand side. Then follow the rest of the below instructions to customize the look of your Webmail.
Go to the User Interface section located on the left.
- Set Time format to "7:30 am"
- Set Date format to 07/24/2026.
- Set Refresh (check for new messages, etc.) to 10 mins.
- Select Alpha theme. This is important for some of the next steps as some themes have slightly different settings. The rest of the steps assume you have the Alpha theme selected.
- Select Save on the bottom right.

Go to the Mailbox View section on the left.
-
Set "Layout" to "List (no mail preview)".
- Note: You'll have to double-click to open messages and shift/ctrl click to select multiple messages in this layout. If you don't want that behavior, you may want to use "Desktop (wide list and mail preview below)" instead.
- Set "Rows Per Page" to 15.
- Select Save on the bottom right.
Go to Displaying Messages on the left hand side.
- Toggle on "Show email addresses with display name".
- Toggle off "Display HTML".
- Select Save on the bottom right.

Go to Composing Messages on the left side.
- Set Compose HTML messages to "Never".
- Set Automatically add signature to "Never".
- Select Save on the bottom right.

Go to Contacts.
- Set the List contacts as "First Name Last Name"
- Set the Sorting column "First Name"
- Select Save on the bottom right.

Go to Skin Look and Feel.
-
Set Font size to Largest.
- This is optional depending on your preference. You can also toggle Thick font to add extra boldness and legibility to your font in webmail.
- Feel free to explore the other Font families and Color options here to add extra customization to your Webmail experience.
- Select Save on the bottom right.

Now you can navigate back to your mailbox by clicking the Mail icon in the upper right hand side of the page. From there we have one last setting to adjust.
Click the small gear icon the the upper left hand side of your mailbox. (pointed to with the red arrow below).
- Toggle off "Size".
- The layout should also be set to "list".
- Select Save on the bottom right.
At this point your webmail should have a more familiar layout that you may be accustomed to if you were using SquirrelMail. There are more options you can play with in the settings to truly customize the look and feel of your webmail, including a few other themes that greatly adjust the look of Webmail.
