In communities where we’re still building the fiber optic network, we offer the chance to pre-order service. A pre-order is a risk-free way to sign up that secures access to future service while we finish construction, locks in the best deal, and gives you first dibs when we start scheduling installation appointments.
Benefits:
- No up-front deposit required.
- You don't pay until your service is installed.
- Ordering early means you get the best available promotion.
- You get access to construction progress in your community through our Fiber Status Tool.
- When we're ready to connect you, we'll buy out your current service contract for up to $200! Please see our full policy here.
We’re constantly expanding our fiber network, so check your address to see what service is available in your area here: https://www.sonic.com/availability. If we aren’t in your area yet, you’ll have the opportunity to let us know you’re interested!
Pre-Order FAQ:
Why do I have to give a credit card for a pre-order? Will I be charged now?
While we don’t require an up-front deposit for the pre-order, we do ask for your credit card information to complete your Sonic account setup and save it for automatic billing. Your card will not be charged until your service is installed and activated. See our Billing Policy for more details.

Checking Your Pre-Order Status
Since every fiber build is different, once you pre-order, you’ll gain access to construction progress in your area so you can see what stage of the process you are in. To access the Fiber Status Tool and check for updates visit: https://www.sonic.com/fiber-status.
Pre-Order Phases:
Each phase describes the current status of the build-out and offers more insight into the various steps involved in bringing fiber connectivity to your neighborhood.
Evaluating
All Sonic customers are automatically included in our ongoing evaluations for fiber network expansion. During this phase, our teams assess engineering requirements and potential expansion opportunities. We'll keep customers informed and up to date as progress is made.
Planning
During this phase, Sonic is actively planning the deployment of fiber-optic internet. We evaluate neighborhood roads, utility poles, underground infrastructure, city layout, and anything else that could come up during the process. Because this process can take time, estimated project completion timelines are unavailable during this stage.
Pre-Construction
As Sonic begins the pre-construction phase, our engineers analyze the current network and work closely with city representatives to uncover any special needs or local requirements. During this phase, our Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Plant Teams also work closely together to outline the scope of work, design the fiber network path, and apply for the permits required before beginning construction.
Construction
This phase is when Sonic begins running fiber cabling throughout the city, attaching it to utility poles, and performing underground work as needed. Once construction is complete, we will activate the network and begin scheduling installations.
Active Fiber Network
This is when the network is officially activated, marking the completion of the construction and the beginning of in-home installation scheduling.
Installation
This final phase includes the fiber drop and in-home installation of the Sonic fiber service. To learn more about the installation process see the following article, What to expect on Fiber Drop and Installation Day.
Fiber Status Tool FAQ:
Is there an estimate of when service will be available?
There are many factors that can affect the deployment of our network, including assessing existing infrastructure, designing the build-out, obtaining permits, addressing engineering challenges, and more. As a result, we don’t provide estimated activation dates during the earlier phases. However, a more accurate timeline can be determined based on the progress made during the construction phase.
Is the date on the pre-order page accurate?
While we do our best to account for all the variables that affect the projected completion date, the dates displayed are ultimately estimates. Rest assured that we’re doing everything we can to bring Sonic Fiber to you as quickly as possible. In some cases, construction is completed ahead of schedule, allowing installations to begin earlier than expected.
