Setup
When you first open Windows Live Mail (Version 11) it will prompt you to add an email account.
- Enter your Sonic.net email address including the @sonic.net in the "Email Address" field.
- Enter your Sonic.net email password in the "Password" field.
- In "Display name for your sent messages" enter your name.
- Click "Next"
- Select IMAP from the "Server Type" dropdown.
- In "Server address" enter "imap.sonic.net" and "993" for the port.
- Check the box marked "Requires a secure connection (SSL)"
- "Authenticate using" should default to "Clear text."
- Enter your Sonic.net username (without the @sonic.net) in the "Logon user name" field.
- Under "Outgoing server information" enter "mail.sonic.net" for the "Server address" and set the port for "465"
- Check the boxes for "Requires a secure connection" and "Requires authentication."
- Click next.
You should receive a message that "Your email account was added!" Click finish to exit the setup and start reading your email.
Settings
To view or modify the settings for your Sonic.net email account click the "Account" tab next to "View" from the menu bar, then click "Properties."
- From the "General" tab you can edit "Name" "Email Address" and check a box to include this account when checking for new messages.
- Click the "Servers" tab.
- "Incoming Mail" should be set for "imap.sonic.net" and "Outgoing mail" should be set for "mail.sonic.net"
- Under "Incoming Mail Server" are the fields for "Email username" and "Password" which should be set to your Sonic.net username and password.
- The checkbox for "My server requires authentication" under the "Outgoing Mail Server" should be checked.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab.
- The "Outgoing mail" port should be set for "465" and the box for "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" should be checked.
- The "Incoming mail" port should be set for "993" and the box for "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" should be checked.
- Click the "Apply" button to save any changes you have made.
- Click "Ok" to exit the "Properties" window and return to your inbox.
